I used a 10 inch clear acrylic ball as the base. I then used Sculpt Or Coat and cheesecloth to create a spiral effect all over the ball.
I then went in with an air brush and painted the cheesecloth with different hues of blue. This picture also has the ball filled with the iridescent fabric.
After the blue spirals, I went in with an airbrush with purple and a stencil to create the purple spots. The final eggs had the purple be less constricted to the original cheesecloth and faded more into the clear areas.
I did this cheesecloth and paint combination on another egg that was 18 inches diameter and multiple "egg shell" pieces. The egg shell pieces were 5 or so layers of Sculpt or Coat and cheesecloth and then i added the spiral texture.
I created a dragon hand for the pedestal for the egg to sit on. I made a rough hand shape with plywood and covered it with paper and packing tape until I was happy with the shape. I then covered it with more Sculpt or Coat and cheesecloth before painting.
